Work Visa and Pakistani Nationals

The recent attack on Pathankot air base and the attack on Indian army at Uri have brought into focus once again on the Pakistani nationals coming to work in India on work visas. The focus has again shifted thanks or otherwise to the MNS, on Pakistani actors who recently worked in some big budget Indian movies and must have been paid crores of rupees for their work. The MNS demanded that they return to their own country and as the newspaper reports suggest that they have left the country whether on their own or after the threat is not clear. The film industry is again up in the arms with demanding that whether stopping them from working and promoting the films in India will stop terrorist activities carried out by Pakistan? They have even quoted the most misused expression of freedom of expression and that the exchange of artists will promote development of better relations and peaceful atmosphere with Pakistan and promotes peace with them.
Have these persons ever sat down and thought that when we have enough good talent in India and there are a number of unemployed artists in India itself then what is the requirement of bringing these artists from Pakistan? Are our own new artists not good enough or they charging exorbitant fees? Both these arguments are silly and show their lack of knowledge about the present situation in the country. But what one can expect from these highly paid actors who keep making stupid comments only to regret them later. Probably they think their acting stardom gives them a right to comment on everything and they can get away with it due to their large fan following.  Please use our own people or train them so that they can come up to your expectations and help in skill development and poverty elevation in India rather than bringing the foreign artists especially from Pakistan. Stopping Pakistani artists from giving work visa may or may not actually stop terrorism but will definitely cut down the funding to those who are behind all this terrorist activities in Pakistan and every small step in choking them counts. Every small step will definitely help the country in a big way in fighting against these activities and it is these small contributions from every citizen that counts.
Moreover, these actors and artists come to India on work visa and earn crores of rupees which go out of India rather than remain in our own economy. They go back to Pakistan and contribute in the name of charity to those organizations, whether willingly or due to extortion or otherwise, whether by choice or ignorance, who carry out terrorist activities in Indian soil against our own people. They inadvertently contribute to running and funding of these terrorist organization., their training camps, arms and ammunition and pay for these so called misguided jihadis. I am not saying that these artists are jihadis or they are terrorist sympathizers but they do it because they and their families have to live in a country where terror is a state sponsored subject and hence they may not have a choice and even if they did have, they have chosen to keep quiet about them and remain an anonymous figure rather than protest against them. Please stop funding these terrorist organizations inadvertently in name of exchange of culture and artists and donate some money to the funding of education, livelihood and work for the families and children of the soldiers killed by these Pakistani soldiers and terrorist organizations, if you are a true patriot.
It is a well known fact that an actor’s son will become an actor or a director’s son will choose a career in the bollywood only. In India, 99% of the past or present politicians or their family members have never served in armed forces, what to talk of seeing actual combat.. Consider this against the Americans, where majority of the senators and even the Presidents have served in armed forces and seen combat and even Prince of England did a tour of Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot in combat conditions. I have not come across a single person who is from this industry or politics whose children are working in Armed forces and have seen combat.
These Pakistani  actors and artists did not even condemn the attack on Pathankot and Uri even when they were requested by Dr. Subash Chandra ,Chairman of Essel group and Anupam Kher to do it without naming Pakistan and this shows their mindset and attitude. Dr Subash Chandra even stopped the telecast of Pakistani serials in his channel Zindagi even though he incurred a loss of about Rs.60 crores. Wish our bollywood actors and directors showed the same courage. We welcome them with open arms, respect them and love them but what they give us back is these terrorists who kill our own people.
Pakistan does not permit Indian artists to come and work in Pakistan. All these exchanges should be based on reciprocal basis and not loaded on one side. The number as well as the payment for performance has to be equal otherwise it would be better to let them work in Pakistan only. We want peace with Pakistan but not at the cost of our own money being used to kill our own soldiers. We would first like to see that every Indian has a job, food to eat, water to drink and lives a respectable life rather than improving the lives of Pakistani at the cost of our own citizens.
Grant visa to them by all means to come to visit India, meet their relatives, attend marriages or even to come to India for treatment in Indian hospitals and doctors as long as they spend their own money in India which help boost to a very small degree our own economy but not our own money going out of India and being used against us by granting them work visa.  Stop issuing work visa to the Pakistani nationals is my sincere request to the Govt and to the film industry.

Madhav National Park, Shivpuri(MP)

It is the smallest  and the oldest 0f the national park in Madhya Pradesh with an area of about 355 sq km and one which does not boast of a tiger sighting but  it make up for it in terms of its accessibility and the ability to drive your own vehicle in the national park along with a guide. Besides it has two lakes and a boat club from where one can go boating.  The park is part of the upper Vindhya hills and is close to Shivpuri town.
The best time to visit it is from October to March but it is one of the national parks which is open throughout the year. The Agra Bombay national highway number 3 ( AB Road) passes through the national park and it has one entrance from the highway itself and the other entrance to the park is on the Guna- Jhansi national highway number 25 which bypasses Shivpuri. If one wish to explore the park on a cycle then it is possible but the use of a park guide is a must. The park also boasts of two lakes, Sakhya Lake and the Madhav Lake. Sakhya Lake is the bigger lake and has a boat club from where one can hire a boat and take a boat ride in the lake. The lake has a number of landing grounds around it and one can see a wide variety of birds and crocodiles sun bathing. In winter it is full of migratory birds. The park does not boast of a tiger population, though for some time in 2007 a tiger pair made the park its habitat, but it does have a number of leopards. As leopard is nocturnal animal hence it may not be possible to see one during day’s visit to the park but in night you can hear its call or might see one late in the evening in the park.
Besides the park also boasts of a number or animals including, antelopes, nilgai, deer, chital, barasingha, wild pig, wild dogs, porcupine, foxes  and even wolf not to mention the gangs of langur which one can see sunbathing on the road itself and on trees. A wide variety of birds have made this park their habitat which includes, peacocks, jungle fowl, parakeets, kingfisher, eagles, etc. In winter it is home to a large variety of migratory birds.
The park also has a number of historical monuments out of which the most famous is the George Castle situated in the middle of the park at its highest point at a height of 484 meters. From the top of the castle on can get a bird’s eye view of the park the check dam and the lake. Besides the castle the park also has Bhura-Kho towers and the water falls which give it a wonderful view and is a nice place to spend some time. Shooting box is another important monument.
The park has almost flat gravel roads therefore it is possible to drive one’s own vehicle in the park along with a guide after paying the park and guide fee. One can also cycle in the park along with a guide. Besides the normal hotels in Shivpuri there are two places near and in the park which are very good. The tourist village on the bank of the Sankya Lake is a beautiful property and has decent rooms and a restaurant. It has rooms which overlook the lake and on full moon day the view from your room or by the side of the lake is breathtaking. The rooms are reasonably priced and can be booked on line through MP Tourism website. From here the entrance is just about 3 Km. The other option is to book the forest rest house which is just opposite of Tourist village on the other side of the lake inside the park. Besides they also have some huts and other options of stay. For their booking one has to contact the director of Madhav National Park. The guest house is an old building but the view of the lake and the forest from its veranda and balcony is just too good to miss. Make a plan to stay at least one evening and night in either of these properties.

Marine National Park, Jamnagar

Marine national Park near Jamnagar, Gujarat was a must in our 25 days road trip to Gujarat which started from New Delhi. We had read so much about the biodiversity and about the walk in the national park sea bed that we decided to stay in Jamnagar one extra day reserved for the park only.
Marine National Park is a part of Marine Wildlife sanctuary which stretches from Okha to Jamnagar along the coast in the Gulf of Kutch. It is a 110 sq km area just off the coast near Jamnagar and consists of 42 islands; most of them are surrounded by reef. The best known is the Pirotan Island. There are two ways to go to the national park. One is to take a boat from the Bedi port or Nava port jetty in Jamnagar to go to Pirotan island and then explore the park or take the boat and visit the whole park on boat and getting off at places to explore the sea bed and reef. This is possible only during high tide and one requires permission and payment of fee to the forest department to visit the park which you can obtain from the forest department at the gate or from Jamnagar.
The other way is to go to Narara reef near Vadinar village close to Essar refinery and then take a guide after paying the park fee at the forest department counter and just walk into the national park. You can walk up to 4 to 5 Km in shallow waters and can see the big oil tankers offloading their oil and waiting for high tide to set sail. This side of park is accessible only in low tide and, therefore, make sure about the timing of low and high tide and reach there about an hour earlier. Tide timings can also be obtained from port authorities or even from forest department.
The marine national park is full of marine wealth, mangrove, coral reef, sea grass, sea weed, sponges, sea turtles, fishes, finless dolphins, dungong, corals and a wide variety of birds. Best time to visit is from Oct to March. While going to Pirotan Island is relatively easy as one has to take a boat from jetty after taking permission from the forest department but going to Narora reef is a travel of about 60 Km from Jamnagar. One has to take the highway to Dwarka and just before Essar Refinery take a right turn for Vadinar Village. This turn is about 40 Km from Jamnagar. Another 20 Km after following road signs and some on dirt road and seeing flocks of flamingos you reach the gate of the park. On the left side you have the forest department office. Take a guide from here and after paying the park fee you can park your vehicle in the adequate parking space and a small refreshment stall. Preferably wear shorts or loose pants which can be rolled up with floaters to walk on reef as you will be walking on the sea bed with water reaching up to knee level at times. Carry eatables as after walk you feel hungry and the stall has small snacks and tea only.  Carry water to drink, sun glasses and a cap as when sun comes up one needs a cap and the dark glasses to save the eyes from reflection from sea water and a towel with a change of clothes and not to mention your camera and binoculars.
There is nothing spectacular about the marine national park which one can find in other national parks like seeing a lion in Gir forest or seeing a tiger in Ranthambore about which you can talk about. If you expect to see something spectacular, then this is not a park for you. This national park is totally unique and different than others. It is only here where you can walk in the park see the marine life and coral reef at a very close range and enjoy walking on the sea bed which you cannot do in other national parks. It is good education for children to see things close by and know about the marine life, flora and fauna and see the oil tankers offloading their cargo.
We stayed in Jamnagar and took our SUV to the Narora reef in the morning reaching there by 0600 hrs and returned by 1400 hrs only. It s advisable to stay in Jamnagar as it has good hotels for all budgets, taxis and a variety of food. From here you can go to both the places but unless you are a serious wildlife enthusiast then you should choose one of the two places only depending upon whether you like boat ride or car ride and walking. One can also take a taxi from Jamnagar but book it in advance or take a bus and local transport to reach Vadinar village.
The roads of Gujarat are good and you enjoy driving on them with national highways being minimum four lane and good surface with minimal toll but there are no toilet facilities on the highways and no eating places on the highways except near towns but the signboards are bilingual so you can find your ways except in cities or state highways where they are only in Gujarati. State highways are also good unless they are being repaired but the signs are all on Gujarati on state highways so do not forget to carry and use your satellite based GPS to find the right way and please do not bank upon tower based GPS as in Jamnagar in front of our hotel it gave an error of 800 meters and outside city it is useless.  The only other state we found such good roads was MP with Rajasthan coming next. So while traveling on roads please carry eatables unless you are fond of Gujarati snacks which can be found near cities or villages only. It was surprising that in the land of Amul , we could not find one single booth selling Amul milk or other milk products, probably they are all exported out of the state but in Jamnagar you can get tasty and delicious local made ice cream and very good Gujarati and other types of food.

Increasing Railway's Revenue

Instead of imposing the flexi fare scheme as announced by railways, which I call a “Misery Tax”, because it aims at making profit from the miseries of the individual, there are a number of ways to increase profit of railways and railways should explore and implement those measures. Some of them are:-
1. Increase fare by about 10% to make good the loss instead of flexi fares.
2. Do away with all the free passes to the railway employees and their families but introduce the system of two LTC in a block f four years as given to other government servants. Remove the six passes given to them and families even after retirement and to coolie of railways and change them to the same as given applicable to all government servants. Even persons traveling on duty should pay and later reimburse.
3. Do away with free passes given to all MP, MLA, Committees, etc and introduce the system of reimbursement of travel to them by their respective departments in line with other public servants.
4. Retiring rooms to be developed on hotel style with facilities with flexi fares which are there for first two hours and keep increasing with every extra hours of stay.
5. Lease the railway land adjacent to the railway tracks on lease to persons to grow fruits and vegetables there with railway providing fast freight service on charges or transport them to market or cities.
6. Allow private alternate energy supplier companies to install rooftop solar plants on all railways station rooftop on lease and get into an agreement to supply the power to you at concessional rates. The same thing can be applied to other railway installations and empty railway land.
7. Replace all manned railway crossings with automatic shutting of gate with a loud alarm.
8. Erect bio gas plants to generate and use gas generated from the waste generated at railway stations and toilets.
9. Allow advertisement in the bogies at only suitable places to generate extra revenue. Outside the train is possible but it does give a bad look to these prestigious trains.
10. Recycle and use the waste water generated at railway station for use in washing, cleaning and toilet use for the trains or at platform.
11.  A lot of waste in terms of food containers is generated, which is thrown away, and leads to more garbage. Recycle these plastic containers, aluminum containers, wraps and foils and use them again in order to conserve these resources or develop reusable packing for the food and other items. The same goes for the bottled drinking water supplied in the trains and replace them with RO units fitted in each compartment and reusable glasses.
12. Use electronic media rather that wasting paper on tickets or printing charts.
13 Like airports do not permit other persons except passengers on platform but persons wishing to go have to pay high charges and put electronic debit machines to manage it.
14. Use pre loaded cash cards which can be used to buy tickets for any destination and display the information on screen.
15. Form a committee which will identify the extra flab in the railways and suggest ways to implement it in a phased manner. This will bring down the fixed cost and improve revenue.
16. Develop and fix a system on bogies which will generate electricity and feed into the grid when the trains are using brakes to stop or slow down. Increase the parking fee at railway stations
17.  Increase the parking fee for cars, vehicles, taxis, etc at railway stations.
Besides these revenue generating measures here are certain other measures which the railways must take in order to the passengers more satisfaction.
1. Provide central ramps on all staircases which do not have escalator to help in carrying the suitcase by rolling rather than lifting.
2. Provide access to the platform on the ground level itself with suitable display to help the aged and handicapped persons or providing an elevator. Climbing into the compartment from platform should also be with a fold able ramp fitted in the bogie.
3.  In New Delhi railway station extend the sky way from platform up to the main road with suitable openings at different places to avoid rush and overcrowding on the approach roads.
4.  Delays in departure of trains to be informed to customers by SMS on their mobiles.
5.  Late arrival of the train to intermediate or destination to be announced in the speaker system of the train and whether the train will makeup or arrive late at destination.
5. The side lower and upper births in AC 2 tier, Ac 3 tier and sleeper are to be charged less than the cabin seats as they are less comfortable in terms of length and width than cabin berths and are slightly more cramped. This is done in most of the trains in other countries.
6.  Install a sleep mode in all the AC compartment’s control panels of the AC units which will keep increasing the temperature by one degree after every two hours. Late night and early morning the compartment gets very cold at times. This will bring down the electricity charges. The ideal temperature to be maintained should be 25 to27 degrees where a person should not need a blanket to sleep but a simple sheet should do the job if required. At present most are set for 20 to 22 degrees.
