A Tale of Two MIinisters-Two Faujis

It is a tale of two ministers, two fauji's both in the the same ministry but at different times and posts.
The first one the minister of state of Foreign Affairs Lt. Gen. V K Singh , a retired Chief of Army Staff and present minister of state for foreign affairs, spent one day and night in Saana in the war torn country of Yemen overseeing, supervising the evacuation of Indians from this country. It is only due to his expertise and personal supervision by coordinating all agencies that the evacuation mission started and is going on smoothly. Please understand that the Indian aircrafts have a three hour window only from the time they enter the Yemen air space to complete the mission from an airfield where large transport aircraft can not operate. He was himself on board to assure all passengers about their safe passage back home. It is in the history of Indian politics that a minister is himself supervising the operation. Never in Indian history, what to talk of a minister even an MP or bureaucrat or a five star activist has himself gone to a war infected zone to personally supervise such a mission. It is only an Army man who can do it by personally leading from the front as he is taught to do and has been doing in his whole service career. Most of the ministers, MP's and other Govt servants prefer to sit in their air conditioned office and then later claim credit for it. Even the media has played a very biased role in this affair. No new item and no praise for him except for a small item somewhere inside the newspaper and no mention on TV. But the statement of convicted MP's find mention tn TV news and on front page of newspapers. Sad but true. Even his tweet on the Pakistan day celebration came out in the newspaper on front page and was a topic of hot discussion on TV's but his this deed is sadly and coolly ignored by all as it was expected for him to do this and this is what gets paid for. It is high time that the media of this country pays to the defence forces of what is due to them. Never in the history of Indian politics it was seen earlier and may be never will be seen again.
Let us go back to a couple of years and look at another Minister of Foreign Affairs, a higher post, another fauji, Maj Jaswant Singh. The only difference in both of these NDA ruled center is that of Prime Minister. At present it is Shri Narendra Modi but earlier it was Shri Atal Bihari Bajpayee. The earlier prime minister caved in to the demand of the hijackers who had taken an Indian Airlines aircraft to Kabul and demanded the release of their comrades in Indian Jail. The release of these dreaded terrorists from Indian jail is still is felt by the defence forces and Indians at large and we are still paying in blood for that blunder. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Maj Jaswant Singh personally escorted these terrorists in a VIP style in an Indian Airlines Aircraft from Delhi to Kabul. What a shame? I can not say he lead from the front as he even did not lead from the back and the Indian Government showed a helpless picture of India to all of the world. The media and the TV gave him the full page coverage and main news item. Agreed that Kabul was also a warn torn capital but one was in the middle of fight in a war situation and traveling in cattle class(IAF Transport Aircraft) and the other as a VIP in Indian Airlines aircraft in full comfort to hand over the terrorists. What a contrast but this can only happen in India. Never in the Indian history such a shameful act was seen earlier and hopefully never again in future.
Every time a mess is created whether it is terrorist attack, flood, earthquake, natural calamity, bore well problem, law and order issue, riots, maintaining peace or just public order it is the defence forces that are called in and they always full fill their mission. But the persons who created or allowed the mess to be created by their carelessness, blunder, mistake or sheer laziness to take action in time get away Scot free and sometimes with rewards and promotions and it is the defence forces that are left to clear the mess, face brickbats, human rights issues and go back to their barrack unsung, unheard and un acclaimed without any reward or even a thank you from the people or media. Consider this just for a minute that Mr. Abinav Bhindra was given Two Crore of rupees for winning a gold medal in Olympics but Maj Unnikrishnan , the army office, who died in Taj hotel in Mumbai while rescuing persons stranded there and fighting the terrorist was given a measly five lac of rupees by the then Government. Is this the price of a army Officer. The government of India and the Indian public at large should be ashamed for even offering this to a martyr.
